🍦 Don't Fear The Feedback
Make feedback normal. Not a performance review.
Hey friend —
Have you ever received feedback from your customers or team members that made you feel uncomfortable or defensive?

It's a familiar feeling, but it's important to remember that feedback is a gift. It provides us with valuable insights that we can use to improve our products, services, and processes.
Many people fear feedback because they worry it will be negative or critical. However, even positive feedback can be challenging to receive. It can be tempting to dismiss it as flattery or to overlook areas where we can still improve.
Likewise, negative feedback can feel like a personal attack. After all, if someone has a complaint about your business, then it's hard not to make that feel like it's a direct complaint about you.
But the truth is, the only way to grow and improve is to embrace feedback, both positive and negative.
Here are a few tips for handling feedback:
1. Listen actively: When receiving feedback, take the time to listen carefully to what is being said. Ask questions to clarify any points that are unclear.
2. Stay open-minded: Avoid becoming defensive or dismissive. Remember that the person providing the feedback is doing so to help you improve.
3. Say thank you: Show gratitude for the feedback, even if it was difficult to hear. This will encourage others to continue providing feedback in the future.
4. Take action... when appropriate: Use the feedback to make positive changes to your products, services, or processes. That said, it's good to still listen to your gut with some feedback. After all, you could have two customers requesting opposite feedback, so it's not a case of simply actioning everything that you get as feedback. You still need to make those calls to decide what's best for what aligns with your goals and values.

Remember, feedback is not a personal attack. It's an opportunity to learn and grow. So don't fear the feedback! Embrace it as a powerful tool for improvement.

“Feedback is a gift. Ideas are the currency of our next success. Let people see you value both feedback and ideas.”
